Trek with Highland Horse Riding
Highland Horse Riding is run by Ileene Duncan BHSAI, who with her husband & family farm Stonefield Farm, an extensive hill farm. You are likely to see Blackface Sheep, Highland Cattle & farmed Red Deer, (Oysters are also grown in West Loch Tarbert ) and abundant wildlife. For riding the terrain is diverse, sometimes challenging, but you can always be assured of an interesting & exhilarating experience!
The routes are varied from leisurely hacks taken at a steady pace to exhilarating hill riding where the terrain sets the challenge : terrain in which the natural ability of the Highland Pony and Eriskay Pony excels. Discover the thrill of riding these forward going, but steady, naturally sure-footed and friendly ponies : ideal all-terrain transport on which to explore a rugged landscape of spectacular views.
A sample of some of the rides available:
DEER WALK - a short leisurely hack, (approx. 1 hour), over undulating terrain, where you can watch the deer.
HILL RIDING - an hours' ride up to An Binnein will introduce you to the thrill of hill riding and glimpse some spectactular views. The route includes some steep climbs and descents.
EXPLORING KNAPDALE - the exhilarating, eco-friendly way to discover the rich biodiversity & challenging terrain: Ancient woodland ( SSSI & SAC ), open moor & tranquil lochs. The routes include very varied terrain, with steep climbs and descents and short sections on the public road, ( 2 hours approximately. Please note : these routes are not always available ).
Riding Ability : One Hour Treks or rides - riders should be competent and confident at walk & trot. Not suitable for lead rein riders or total beginners. It is recommended that riders are riding fit.
Two Hour routes and longer - for all routes the rider should be confident and competent at walk, trot & canter. Riders should be riding fit.
The majority of our routes are over undulating and often very uneven, steep terrain which is challenging and requires vigilance from riders. For your safety and the welfare of our ponies please consider carefully your riding ability and fitness, or any person you may be responsible for in your group. If unsure please discuss at the time of booking.
